Demand for baby diapers, pants, sanitary napkins and adult diapers in Central Asian countries is growing steadily. China is the world's largest manufacturer of hygiene products, offering importers world-class quality at better prices than European or Turkish suppliers. This guide covers the entire path: from choosing a supplier to customs clearance.
Step 1. Choose a reliable supplier in China
- Manufacturer status: a factory (not a trader) — verify production capacity, photos/videos, ideally visit or take an online tour.
- Certificates and laboratories: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, in-house quality control laboratories.
- Export experience: which countries the manufacturer actually supplies.
- Samples: always request samples before signing a contract.
Step 2. Samples, MOQ and payment terms
- Samples: usually 7–15 days after request.
- Minimum order (MOQ): many manufacturers offer trial orders; standard volume starts from one 20-foot container. For private labels — discussed individually.
- Payment: common scheme — 30% prepayment (T/T), 70% against a copy of the bill of lading. L/C for large orders.
Step 3. Production and quality control
- Production time: usually 15–30 days after sample approval and payment.
- Pre-shipment inspection: request the manufacturer's quality report or an independent inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas).
- Private label: the manufacturer develops the packaging design, prints it and provides a proof for approval.
Step 4. Logistics: delivery to each country
- Kazakhstan: most developed logistics. Railway: container trains (e.g., Xi'an–Almaty) via Alashankou–Dostyk. Road: through the Khorgos border point. Sea + road/rail also possible.
- Uzbekistan: railway via Kazakhstan to Tashkent (with re-issuance at the border); road through Khorgos and Kazakhstan transit, or via Kyrgyzstan.
- Kyrgyzstan: direct road service through Torugart and Irkeshtam border points — convenient for LCL and small batches.
- Tajikistan: road delivery with re-issuance via Kyrgyzstan or Uzbekistan to Dushanbe; the direct Karasu crossing has limited capacity.
- Turkmenistan: more complex route — road transit via Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, or sea delivery in the direction of Iran with onward land transport.
Step 5. Customs clearance: country specifics
- Basic documents (all countries): invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, conformity documents.
- Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan (EAEU): technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union apply — EAC conformity for hygiene products.
- Uzbekistan: national standardization system (Uzstandard): sanitary-hygienic expertise and conformity documents per Uzbek standards.
- Tajikistan: national system (Tajikstandard): sanitary and certification documents per local requirements.
- Turkmenistan: national standardization system, stricter import control — coordinate the document list with a local broker in advance.
Tip: before signing the contract, contact a customs broker in your country and confirm the document list for your product range. This avoids surprises at the border.
