Private Label vs OEM: Building Your Diaper Brand the Right Way

Two Models, Two Levels of Control

In OEM (original equipment manufacturing), you specify the product and the factory builds to your formula. In private label, you typically take a manufacturer's existing formulation and apply your branding. The difference is how much of the product you own versus how fast and cheaply you launch.

When Private Label Wins

If speed-to-shelf and low development cost matter most — say, a retailer testing a new category — private label is the fastest route. You trade uniqueness for velocity and a lower minimum order quantity.

When OEM Is Worth It

If your brand promise depends on a specific feel, fit or feature, OEM lets you protect that IP. It requires more engineering input and usually higher MOQs, but it builds a defensible product your competitors cannot copy overnight.

Choosing a Partner, Not Just a Factory

Ask about R&D support, certification (ISO, CE, FDA where relevant), and their track record with export documentation. The right partner shortens your learning curve and de-risks your launch. Treat the relationship as a long-term asset.
